Bethesda Wants to Release Games At A Quicker Rate

Bethesda is now hoping to release new video games at a faster rate than it has in the past, especially with Fallout’s increased popularity. Bethesda is known for its massive RPG franchises like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and last year’s mega-hit Starfield. However, these titles can take an incredibly long time to develop, with Starfield suffering from several delays and being in production for nearly eight years before finally hitting stores in September.

So far, the only new game Bethesda has confirmed for the future is the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls 6, which was announced back in 2018 and is said to just now be in the early development stages. Making this wait especially glaring is the fact that the previous mainline entry in the series, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, was released way back in 2011 — no less than two console generations ago. While Fallout fans have gotten more content to enjoy in that same time thanks to Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, the success of the recent Fallout TV series has sparked an increased interest in the post-apocalyptic franchise.

This interest is currently being met with Fallout 4’s recent next-gen update, which has been met with controversy for various reasons. Meanwhile, Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard sat down with the Kinda Funny Games podcast, where he discussed the long time it usually takes his studio to make new projects. He notes that Bethesda’s main focus is to ensure that its releases are “of the highest quality,” but admits that he and the rest of the studio wish to find ways to increase its output.

Some of this output could include the first Starfield DLC expansion, which Todd Howard revealed is coming out this fall. As for Fallout, Howard hinted at the possibility of more spin-offs like 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas, especially in light of the Amazon Prime Video series’ successful premiere earlier this month.
