Benchmark Shows That Pixel 8a Uses A Slower Tensor G3 Compared To The One Found In The Pixel 8 And Pixel 8 Pro

The recently released Pixel 8a is one of the best phones on the market for those who are looking for a device that is affordable but also packs a punch. There are several reasons to choose this device, like the fact that it is more affordable than its elder siblings while maintaining most of what makes the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro so good. However, benchmarks of the newly released budget Pixel tell a slightly different story.

The Pixel 8a is slower than its elder siblings but still delivers exceptional performance for its price

Folks at Android Authority decided to compare the Pixel 8a to its elder siblings to see how the phone performs. Ideally, it should perform on the same level, considering that all three devices share the chipset, but in reality, that is not the case. The phone is slower than its elder siblings, and you can see that in the benchmarks below:

As you can see in the benchmarks above, when compared to the devices from the main series, the Pixel 8a falls behind in both benchmarks. In the GeekBench 6 CPU result, you see the device falling behind in the multi-core score. There is about 8 and 9% discrepancy when compared to the base and the Pro variant, however, when compared to the Tensor G2 in Pixel 7a, the new budget Pixel is significantly better. PCMark tests reveal a similar story where the 8a performs on the same level as the base Pixel 8 but does fall behind the Pro variant.

Looking at the graphics, things are a bit different, as the Pixel 8a delivers comparable performance to its siblings. Although it starts falling down after a prolonged stress test, it starts just as strong and still delivers better performance than the Pixel 7a.

I do understand that this might come as a disappointment to some, but considering the price of the Pixel 8a, I think the performance difference is negligible at best. In most real-life scenarios, you are not
