Baldur's Gate 3's Wyll Is Broken: This Tumblr User May Have Just Found The Fix Larian Couldn't

party member Wyll has suffered from one behavioral bug that's stuck around for a while now, but it turns out that the fix is actually incredibly simple. For the most part, Wyll is one of the nicest Origin characters in the game, with a consistent penchant for doing good that not everyone happens to share. He's still capable of being rude, however, and a bug that affected the way he greets the player character has been making him seem especially standoffish.

As discovered by Tumblr user autistichalsin and shared by bongcommunism on Reddit, the entire problem with Wyll's negative greetings stems from one line of code. The trigger for Wyll to start conversations with "", which is only supposed to happen with a negative approval rating, is missing an "", making him say it in every scenario.

For PC users who don't mind mods, there's already an option to address the problem. Nexus Mods user lesleynopes uploaded a fix, which should essentially flip the switch to let Wyll start conversations according to his real approval rating and not a default negative one.

The problem with Wyll emerged with the release of Patch 7, which came out a month ago on PC. That update targeted an issue with Wyll's low-approval greetings not triggering, so him being locked into one mode of behavior isn't new, but it clearly swung the pendulum in the opposite direction by mistake.

In theory, righting the state of affairs should be a simple fix, but if Larian Studios is aware of the bug, the developer doesn't seem to consider it high enough priority to target in a hotfix. For the time being, it's possible to simply imagine that he doesn't mean it rudely or that the generally dire state of affairs is getting to him regardless of approval, but it's a shame to have him feel so cold even with high approval.
