Astro Bot director rules out VR version, says he ‘wants to hear’ from fans about a PC port

The creative director of Astro Bot has ruled out the possibility of a PlayStation VR2 version, but has kept hopes alive for a PC port.

Speaking to MinnMax, host Ben Hanson asked creative director Nicolas Doucet if there was any interest in a VR version of Astro Bot.

“No chance,” Doucet replied. “It’s designed for a different medium.”

When pressed by Hanson if there was a “zero percent” chance, Doucet reiterated that if the game was to be brought to VR, “it would be a different game”.

Later in the interview,  the possibility of a PC version was brought up, with Doucet asked whether he had a message for PC players keen to play the game.

“Well, we want to hear from you,” Doucet replied. “Absolutely, we want to hear from you.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Doucet was asked how many references Team Asobi was not allowed to include in the game. While Doucet was coy about giving a specific answer, when Hanson suggested that it could somewhere between five or ten, he replied: “About that much.”

Astro Bot will be released on September 6. An Astro Bot-themed DualSense will also be released next week, alongside the game.

An Astro Bot-themed gacha machine will also appear as part of PlayStation’s TGS booth.

While Astro Bot will already be available to the public by the time of the show on September 28 and 29, those in attendance who take part in the demo will be able to take home one of four t-shirts.
