AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 6-Core “Zen 5” CPU Overclocked To 7 GHz
AMD's Ryzen 5 9600X has achieved a new record for Zen 5 overclocking, being pushed to 7 GHz by Indonesian overclocker, Lucky_Noob.
AMD Zen 5 CPUs Overclocked To The Fastest LN2 Frequency Yet, Ryzen 5 9600X Tuned To 7 GHz
During AMD's Tech Day, the company hosted an LN2 overclocking session where the flagship Zen 5 chip, the Ryzen 9 9950X, was overclocked to 6.6 GHz across all 16 cores. Now, the most entry-level chip in the lineup, the Ryzen 5 9600X, has broken the Zen 5 overclocking record & pushed to an OC speed of 7 GHz.

The overclocking achievement comes from Alva Jonathan aka Lucky Noob who used the MSI MEG X670E ACE motherboard to reach the 7 GHz clock speed using LN2 cooling (validation here). All of the 6 CPU cores were set to an x70 multiplier with the reference bus speed of 100 MHz. The setup also featured a pair of 32 GB DDR5 memory.
With this overclock, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X "Zen 5" CPU now sits as the fastest 6-core chip in Cinebench 2024 multi-core and Y-Cruncher PI-BBP-10B benchmarks. ASUS's in-house overclocked, SAFEDISK, also set two new records for the Ryzen 5 9600X, claiming top spots in the X265 1080P & 4K benchmarks. Following are the world records achieved by the chips and their respective Hwbot links:
- Lucky_Noob (Indonesia) - Ryzen 5 9600X @ 6400 MHz - 1190 points Cinebench 2024
- Lucky_Noob (Indonesia) - Ryzen 5 9600X @ 5571 MHz - 9sec,400ms Y-Cruncher 10B
- SAFEDISK (South Korea) - Ryzen 5 9600X @ 6825 MHz - 136.49 FPS X265 1080P
- SAFEDISK (South Korea) - Ryzen 5 9600X @ 6800 MHz - 32.49 FPS X265 2160P
This is just the start of Zen 5's overclocking spree. The AMD Ryzen CPUs have yet to break past the 8 GHz barrier but 7 GHz is a decent LN2 showcase for the Zen 5 chips. We can expect higher clocks once more professional overclockers post their results. The AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs peaked at 6350 MHz while the AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs peaked at 7471 MHz.
