AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE Launching Soon

Amid a busy 2024, AMD revealed that the Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition (GRE) graphics card would launch globally on February 27 for an MSRP of $549. Originally exclusive to China, the latest AMD graphics card to hit the global market is aimed at competing against Nvidia's GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs, including the RTX 4070.

Originally released in China in July 2023, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE was labeled as such to coincide with the Year of the Rabbit celebrations in the country. In terms of specifications, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE is aimed at PC gamers looking to play games at 1440p resolution with high framerates. The Radeon RX 7900 GRE will have 16GB of GDDR6 video memory and comes with 80 combined ray tracing and AI accelerators. The RX 7900 GRE will also be compatible with AMD technologies such as Fluid Motion Frames, FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), and HYPR-RX in supported titles, and is compatible with AMD's Adrenalin Software out of the box.

Though the global release of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE fell on the Year of the Dragon instead, AMD sought to capitalize on the mid-range GPU market with this new card. Starting at $549, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE will launch on Tuesday, February 27. According to VideoCardz, some of the aftermarket partners that will sell the Radeon RX 7900 GRE include Gigabyte, XFX, and PowerColor, with each of them offering the graphics card as a three-fan configuration that will have two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. When paired with an AMD processor such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE can use Smart Access Memory to further boost performance in games and take some load off the CPU.

The arrival of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE outside of China came at a busy time for AMD, following price cuts to other RDNA 3 graphics cards, including the Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7800 XT. With the Radeon RX 7800 XT marked down to $499, the price difference between that and the RX 7900 GRE is only $50. For that $50 markup, the 7900 GRE has 25% more
