Anayama the Peddler

Ashina Outskirts

Black Gunpowder, Scrap Iron

The first merchant in is Anayama the Peddler, a figure who sells some important items and basic gameplay tips for a fee. This character can be found right before the Chained Ogre mini-boss arena, next to a gate leading into the nearby fight. Search for the roof of the gate, where Anayama should be taking shelter along with their wares.

Anayama sells you the Phantom Kunai upgrade to the Shinobi Prosthetic Shuriken attachment among their wares, giving you a way to improve your ranged attacks. When you begin the game, you meet Anayama as they are trying to break into a temple close to the Hirata Estate. Do not kill him for this robbery, as doing so will prevent this merchant from appearing in the future.

Talking to Anayama in the past also reveals the location of some treasure hidden in a bamboo forest guarded by a tough shinobi enemy. This loot can be hard to obtain, as you don't have a ton of skills or equipment early in your adventure.
