Activision says it banned 27,000 Call of Duty accounts over the weekend

Activision claims to have banned over 27,000 Call of Duty accounts over the weekend.

The company said improved detection systems and fresh security updates are helping it root out bad actors, and that players should expect further ban waves.

The latest wave followed last week’s launch of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3, and coincided with a free multiplayer trial which ran from April 4-8.

“#TeamRICOCHET identified and banned over 27,000 accounts over the weekend through a series of upgraded detection systems,” Activision said in a statement (via Charlie Intel).

“The team is progressing on a new set of security updates and anticipates more ban waves to come.”

Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3 includes six new core 6v6 multiplayer maps, with four available since launch and two arriving mid-season.

Warzone Season 3’s headline addition is the return of fan favourite map Rebirth Island alongside Resurgence mode, which let players respawn as long as one of their teammates is still alive.

Elsewhere, Zombies added a new story mission, a fresh Dark Aether Rift, and a new Warlord in the form of artillery and demolitions expert Rainmaker.

A Modern Warfare 3 dataminer recently uncovered what appears to be an upcoming multiplayer map titled ‘Get High’.

Rather than being a standard Call of Duty multiplayer map, it’s a vaporwave environment offering parkour-based gameplay which sees competitors racing to reach the top of its structures.
