Pour one out for EVGA graphics cards. Back in September 2022, the company announced it would make no more, bringing to a close a run of rather performant and well-cooled GPUs, many of which were capable of some serious overclocking.
Two weeks ago I was in a hotel in downtown Taipei prodding some of Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X Elite laptops, and I was impressed with how well they ran Baldur's Gate 3 and Metro Exodus. Both are compiled for the x86 CPU architecture, yet the co-created Microsoft/Qualcomm Prism emulation layer still delivered impressive gaming performance from proper PC games. And I was happy. A few days later I was happier still as I checked out the Works on WoA microsite to see about game compatibility and this is what I saw:

One of the things I was most interested to see out here at the Computex 2024 techstravaganza were the swathe of Snapdragon X Elite laptops that are soon to launch, mostly because it's been surprisingly bullish about its gaming performance. But the first time I've actually got to test the gaming performance myself yielded something surprising: The X Elite uses AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling to great effect.
At AMD's Computex 2024 keynote Dr. Lisa Su was keen to point out how well its Radeon Instinct MI300X graphics cards do when paired with OpenAI's latest tools. Unfortunately, all it did was once more prove that you really ought not to trust everything you're told by an AI.

Right now it's just a Computex tech demo, but the gaming focused Project G-Assist AI might just be the most interesting AI assistant I've seen yet. And I've seen a lot, and we'll likely see a million more throughout the Taipei show this week and on through this 'year of the AI PC'.
Computex 2024 is nearly upon us. One of the biggest events in the tech calendar, this year's show takes place between June 4-7 at the Taipei Nangang ExhibitionCenter in sunny Taiwan.
