During the full-year financial report for 2023-24, the Embracer Group confirmed several games that will be released in the next fiscal year (by March 2025), including the Gothic remake, Killing Floor 3 and Titan Quest II. That's in addition to Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which we know will be released in 2024, and three major unannounced games.
The creation of Stalker 2 is genuinely remarkable, and not just because the newest addition to a notoriously weird, janky shooter series has somehow become one of the most anticipated games of the year. It's the circumstances of its development that are especially notable: Developer GSC Game World has continued to work on the game even as its home country of Ukraine has struggled to fend off a full-scale Russian invasion that began in 2022.
After multiple delays, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to bring us back to the Exclusion Zone in November, and according to GSC Game World's PR manager, Microsoft has been very supportive of the team throughout the first-person shooter's development.
STALKER 2 is real, and it's promising. I can confirm as much after having had the chance to try a brief demo of Episode 1 during Gamescom 2024. This sequel has had to go through an untold number of hurdles, starting with the cancellation of the original project (announced in 2010) and the disbandment of Ukrainian developer GSC Game World.
Making a videogame is a tough business at the best of times, and for Ukrainian studios like Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World, these are much closer to the worst of times: Ukraine suffered a full-scale invasion by Russia in early 2022, and while the country has defended itself far more ably than many expected, it still faces relentless daily assaults in a war that's cost tens of thousands of lives.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a big ol' game with a huge map and a story that'll take around 100 hours to fully explore, and even so, it was essentially built entirely by hand.
You ask me, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a downright gaming injustice. Developer GSC Game World posted a video and statement on Thursday saying the game’s release, which was previously set for September 5, will now be November 20. It wrote that the developers want to take the time to fix some bugs (or “anomalies,” as it calls them).
