TSMC makes the world's graphics chips and predicts 'within a decade a multichiplet GPU will have more than 1 trillion transistors'

Graphics processing units (GPUs) are some of the largest chips made, and in just over a decade, the most powerful graphics processors have gone from comprising a few billion transistors to over 100. But even those figures will be tiny compared to what lies ahead in the future, according to TSMC, and it's explained how it plans to continue making them ever bigger. Billions? Uh uh—how about a cool one trillion transistors?

Helldivers 2 patch fixes the game-crashing weapons that are vital to taking back Mantes from everyone's least-favorite faction

Arc weapons shouldn't crash your game anymore in Helldivers 2, so you can zap to your heart's content

The latest Warbond for Helldivers 2 includes a lot of ways to dispense electric justice—and ways to survive those zaps when they inevitably blow back in your face. Unfortunately, an entirely different problem's been slaying Helldivers lately: A frozen game client.

Elon Musk claims Tesla could build a silicon foundry and make its own chips, but says 'I sure hope we don’t have to'

Legendary game developer John Carmack recently stated on Twitter that competing against TSMC head on was pretty much impossible. But he then asked his followers how less impossible it would be for a big tech company to make its own bespoke chips, rather than competing against the general purpose companies. Cue one small reply from a certain Elon Musk: «Tesla could do it, but I sure hope we don’t have to.»

Bold new era of Helldivers 2 lightning combat short-circuits as Arc Throwers start crashing games

Democracy giveth, and democracy taketh away—though I maybe wouldn't say that where the Super Earth Ministry of Truth censors can hear. Fresh off the heels of today's earlier developments in the Helldivers 2 war effort, which fixed the buggy planetary liberation tickers, dropped a dispatch for confronting a new, flying bug menace, and—well—terminated dissidents, the war for galaxy-wide liberty has hit its latest roadbump. In short: don't use any lightning weaponry or stratagems until another patch hits, because you might crash your game. After a pair of Helldivers 2 patches landed yesterday to address patrol spawns, mech woes, and friend request issues, player reports quickly started rolling in describing crashes and game lock-ups. Luckily, according to an announcement from an Arrowhead community manager on the Helldivers 2 Discord, the devs have already identified the issue. A fix is already in the pipeline and it's expected to hit early next week, but until then, Arrowhead is recommending that players avoid using Arc Throwers, Arc Shotguns, and Tesla Tower stratagems. The electric weaponry tech is apparently causing games to freeze if you're playing in a session where they're fired off.

Elon Musk calls OpenAI 'a lie' after announcing plans to make his 'spicy' ChatGPT rival open-source this week

Elon Musk has a chatbot. An edgy chatbot, no less. It's called Grok and it's set to go open-source sometime this week. Which bits of the bot will be open to the scrutiny of others isn't entirely clear yet, as Musk has only published his plans in a seven-word post on X. However, the move does appear to have been spurred by Musk's tumultuous relationship with the creator of ChatGPT, OpenAI.
