You might pay real money for in-game currency, but Take-Two Interactive says that doesn't make it real: In a filing seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit alleging «civil theft» and unfair business practices in its NBA 2K games, Take-Two said virtual currencies (VCs) are not property but are «fictions» created by game makers, and subject to the same terms and conditions as the games themselves.
GTA VI was unsurprisingly brought up several times during Take-Two's Q3 2024 earnings call. When an analyst from BMO Capital Markets asked how the publisher and Rockstar would settle on the release date, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in response:
Game maker Take-Two Interactive has filed a lawsuit against Max Payne maker Remedy Entertainment, citing copyright infringement. Take-Two claims that Remedy Entertainment’s «R» Remedy logo is too similar to Rockstar’s «R» logo.
This is a weird one: Back in April 2023, Remedy Entertainment unveiled a new logo, a stylized «R» it said represented «a fresh and refined look» for the studio. But, as discovered by Respawn First, Take-Two Interactive has filed oppositions to Remedy's trademark application in the UK and EU, claiming a «likelihood of confusion» with its Rockstar Games logo.
Grand Theft Auto V developer Rockstar Games and Alan Wake 2 studio Remedy Entertainment have a history that goes back years, namely due to the two's work on the Max Payne series. However, the companies are at the center of two trademark disputes filed by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, as first reported by RespawnFirst. In the disputes, Take-Two takes issue with Remedy's new logo it unveiled in April of last year, which features a stylized «R,» claiming it's too similar to Rockstar's own «R» logo.
