Skull and Bones is currently deep into its third season, Into the Dragon's Wake. Ubisoft Singapore has released some new stats about last season, including how many battled the Hubac twins, how many upgraded their ships, and the unfortunate toll of those fallen to the Mega Lestari.
A developer at the Cyberpunk 2077 studio, CD Projekt Red, has playfully mocked Ubisoft's use of the term «Quadruple-A» to describe its latest release, Skull and Bones. Inspired by the exceptional naval combat that debuted in Assassin's Creed 4: Blag Flag, Ubisoft's Skull and Bones attempts to refine that system in a shared-world live service experience. Despite Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot boasting Skull and Bones as a «AAAA» game, its February launch left a lot to be desired, so much so that its release gave Assassin's Creed 4 an unexpected spike in player count.
Layoffs are sweeping the gaming industry and Ubisoft has announced more. Nearly 10,000 people were laid off last year as the industry started to shift in a different direction. Many companies are looking towards live service games to make the money necessary to survive and Ubisoft has been a part of this trend. Its Skull and Bones was released in February, and continues to capitalize on the live service concept. Regardless, it seems preventing layoffs was not possible.
Skull and Bones has extended its first season by a week, re-enabled chat, and added opt-in open world PvP, a major community request.

It's often an admittedly unique multiplayer-oriented experience with some idiosyncratic combat, but frequently falters in terms of immersion, awash in fetch quest loops and routines which struggle to fulfill the pirate power fantasy.
