Helldivers 2, it would seem, is having balance problems. As fellow PC Gamer writer Morgan Park noted last week, the major update Escalation of Freedom, while bringing plenty of cool new features to the game, has also set everything on fire. Again.
During D23 2024, and the Ravensburger team unveiled a host of new and exciting updates for the ever-popular trading card game,including ultra-rare Golden Mickey cards, new tournaments and events, which characters are coming in the future, and the next promo card. This D23, is celebrating not only the event itself, but also the TCG's first anniversary, having first launched on August 18, 2023.
Helldivers 2 players are at it again: Arrowhead nerfed the fan-favorite flamethrower in the recent Escalation of Freedom patch, and the community has not taken it well. But in the eyes of Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani, it could be worse.
Rocksteady has made some excellent games in its time, so I honestly feel a bit bad about the lead-balloon performance of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. I probably don't feel as bad about it as Warner Bros does, though: The entertainment megacorp just released its earnings statement for Q2 2024, and the news for its games revenue isn't great.
Descenders, an indie sports game from RageSquid and No More Robots, is quietly one of the best games on Xbox Game Pass thanks to its engaging bike-riding gameplay and endlessly playable, procedurally generated levels. Now, it’s getting a sequel called Descenders Next that trades in biking for snowboarding and mountainboarding.
One of my favourite PC gaming experiences of recent years is hurtling down Mt Slope in Descenders without falling off my bike in spectacular limb-mangling fashion. It's the perfect «just one more go» game: think Tony Hawk or SSX, but with bikes. The main course was procedurally-generated trick gauntlets, but the sprawling hand-made bike parks—of which there ended up being dozens—grew to be the main course for me. I even quite enjoyed falling off my bike: sometimes my hapless rubbery avatar would go flying miles into the air.
main character Niko Bellic has to make a lot of tough decisions during his adventures in Liberty City. Developer Rockstar includes moments like choosing death for Dwayne or Playboy X to highlight the harsh realities of living a life of crime and how these decisions weigh on Niko throughout the story. Niko gets presented with another moment like this later in the game, being asked to choose between two brothers: Derrick and Francis McReary.
Star Wars Outlaws has been a pleasant surprise so far, not only did it manage to win over our staff writer Morgan Park in a lengthy hands-on demo, but it even seems like players already have a favourite character, and the game isn't even out yet.
