In February 2022, Take-Two and Netflix partnered to create a live action film adaptation of the BioShock game franchise. Around six months later, we learned that Francis Lawrence, the director of Hunger Games, Constantine, I Am Legend, Sparrow, and Slumberland, would be taking care of the project.
Netflix sure did sound excited about its BioShock movie back when it announced it in 2022, but it seems like passions have cooled. In a recent chat at San Diego Comic Con (via Variety), the film's producer Roy Lee informed fans that Netflix's «new regime has lowered the budgets… so we're doing a much smaller version» than was originally planned.
Netflix has landed a notable new leader for its rapidly-expanding gaming endeavors. Variety reported that the streaming company has hired Alain Tascan as its new president of games. Before joining Netflix, Tascan was executive vice president for game development at a little studio you may have heard of called Epic Games. Xbox Game Pass' recent restructuring has not been well received by many, but Microsoft may be looking for a way to win back some customers. On July 10, it was announced that Xbox Game Pass for Console would be closing for new customers, forcing those on Xbox consoles to either subscribe to the most expensive tier, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate — which also includes PC Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming — or subscribe to a new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier that doesn't include day-one releases, something that was a major selling point for the subscription. To make matters worse, all other tiers — including Ultimate — increased in price.
This has been a particularly great year for puzzle games.
