Huawei’s HarmonyOS NEXT-Powered Engineering Notebook Is Rumored To Feature The Comically Slow Kirin 9006C, But Software And Thermals Have Improved

The Kirin 9006C was Huawei’s 5nm SoC that powered the company’s Qingyun L540 lineup of notebooks and was introduced in December of last year. At the time, it was believed that the chipset was mass produced on SMIC’s proprietary cutting-edge manufacturing process, but a closer inspection revealed that Kirin 9006C was actually fabricated by TSMC. The same silicon is now said to be found in an engineering sample running HarmonyOS NEXT, with a rumor claiming that the SoC displays better thermals and the software has smoother animations.

Hard to believe but Secure Boot BIOS security has been compromised on hundreds of PC models from big brands because firmware engineers used four-letter passwords

Now, I'll admit my own password hygiene isn't always the best, though I have graduated from the days when I used «xxxxxx» for a few non-critical accounts under the reverse psychology assumption that it's so obviously insecure, nobody would bother trying it. Genius, I know. But even I realise a four-character password is a big no-no.

Google Refers To Its Upcoming Tensor G4 For The Pixel 9 Series As ‘Game-Changing’ But Does Not Provide Any Specific Benchmarking Comparisons

The Tensor G4 is expected to be announced next month, alongside the Google Pixel 9 series that includes three smartphones with the ‘candy bar’ form factor and one foldable handset. Historically, the advertising giant’s chipsets have been significantly slower than the competition and are less energy efficient as Google continues to rely on Samsung’s older manufacturing processes instead of TSMC. However, in the latest marketing material, the Tensor G4 is referred to as ‘game-changing,’ but no evidence is given on how capable the SoC will be.

SMIC’s 5nm Process Rumored To Display Impressive Energy Efficiency, Tipster Does Not Share If Any Huawei Kirin SoC Would Be Mass Produced On It This Year

China’s biggest semiconductor manufacturer, SMIC, might have achieved a massive breakthrough by successfully developing the 5nm technology using its existing DUV equipment, but there are a ton of hurdles to cross before the foundry makes meaningful strides with its new manufacturing process. Fortunately, one tipster reveals some positive development, and the 5nm node has shown improved power efficiency. Unfortunately, there is no update on if this technology will be implemented this year when Huawei announces its next Kirin chipset.
