Former Pokémon legal chief says Palworld 'looks like the usual ripoff nonsense I would see a thousand times a year ' and he's 'surprised it got this far'

Palworld is Pokémon with guns. So much so, in fact, that in its four days on the market it's already been accused of straight-up ripping off the Nintendo franchise by various internet detectives, a claim the developer called «slanderous.»

Former Pokemon Company legal head says Palworld "looks like the usual ripoff nonsense that I would see a thousand times a year"

Palworld's explosive rise continues even as it attracts a whole lot of criticism for its similarities to Pokemon. One person who's very much unimpressed is a former head of The Pokemon Company's legal team.

I really hope this leaked Lego Zelda set is real

I have very few objections to Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

I’m on a bit of a nostalgia kick right now. After burning out on new releases after a hectic 2023, I found a renewed love for gaming on my Nintendo DS. Games like Metroid Prime Hunters and Kirby Mass Attack brought me back to a unique era of two-screen game design brimming with innovative ideas. I’m not the only one missing that time, apparently; 2024 is already filled with DS throwbacks like Another Code: Recollection.

I never knew I wanted to be able to trap monsters in bubbles and watch them float away until I tried the demo for this upcoming magical FPS

Sorceress is shaping up to be a precious kind of game: The Dark Messiah-like. Arkane's sophomore outing is mostly remembered for its legendary kick ability, which could turn nearly any enemy into one of those supremely satisfying Source engine ragdolls with one or two good smacks, but it also had this beautifully anarchic approach to level design, with spike traps and bottomless pits everywhere. Individual rooms (like this one number with a swinging chandelier) from Dark Messiah were so distinctive I remember them all these years later.

Even after 300 hours, I've never met one of Baldur's Gate 3's most elusive NPCs: a half-orc named Honk who only shows up if you kill his brother then go on a date at their restaurant

One of the best parts of Baldur's Gate 3 is all the stuff you don't even realize you missed. The half-orc waiter, Honk, isn't exactly the juiciest morsel of BG3 esoterica, but as YouTuber Proxy Gate Tactician points out, he might be the NPC you're least likely to have met even after hundreds of hours of play.

Ten years ago I wouldn't have believed you if you told me League of Legends would one day have a bafflingly adorable 'crafting RPG' spinoff

For me, League of Legends «ended» somewhere around 2015 when I realized ranked play was just making me upset and that there were other games I wanted to spend my time on. Whenever I'm periodically reminded that the game's still bigger than god and transforming in unrecognizable ways I get the same sense of vertigo as when I hear that Grey's Anatomy is still on the air—sans the Grey. Enter Bandle Tale, a cutesy pixel art «crafting RPG» spinoff for the immortal MOBA that releases next month.
