Arrowhead Game Studios is promising that some major additions are coming to Helldivers 2 via its biggest update yet, Escalation of Freedom, early next month, but it's only the "first step" in a series of extensive changes.
Almost exactly six months after it was first released, is set to receive a major content update called Escalation of Freedom. The third-person co-op shooter found tremendous success when it launched on PS5 and PC in February 2024, immediately asserting itself as one of the best co-op shooters on the market. Drip-fed new content has kept the game evolving at a slow pace while a number of bugs get ironed out, but come Escalation of Freedom's drop on August 6, there will be plenty of new content for Helldivers to subject to the righteous embrace Managed Democracy.
The big Helldivers 2 update Escalation of Freedom is coming August 6, and among the new bots and bugs and other difficulty-ratcheting mayhem, the standout addition for me is easily the new mission type where you transport a jarred Terminid larva across planets. For science, I guess.
