Nexus Mods, arguably the biggest repository for game mods on the Web, has crossed the impressive milestone of 10 billion downloads.
In Nexus Mods' words: «A beast of monstrous proportions is approaching.» Today, the mod distribution site — home to some of the best community made video game additions (looking at you Shrek and Thomas) — will hit 10bn downloads.
Nexus Mods, the world's largest mod site and almost certainly a bookmark in your browser if you've ever wanted to fiddle with Skyrim, obliterate yourself in Fallout, or annihilate thugs with cans of soft drink, is celebrating a milestone. Specifically, it's celebrating the fact that the site will today hit 10 billion total file downloads. That's a one and ten zeroes.
Ever since Netflix took its first tentative steps into video games back in 2021, the company has reported a relatively modest response from subscribers, but new figures suggest its recent partnership with Rockstar to bring GTA to the streaming service has paid dividends, with monthly mobile game downloads nearly tripling to 28m in December 2023.
The chill and appropriately titled sailing game Sail Forth was originally released in December 2022 on basically all platforms, but it was only recently given out for free via the Epic Games Store on PC. This freebie went live on January 11, 2024, and that same day the game's player count had apparently jumped a staggering 282,041% according to creator David Evans, who says he's been "blown away" by the response.
