Dead Cells developer Evil Empire is no longer working on the game, bringing to a close five years of updates.
The development studios behind hit roguelike Dead Cellshave announced that they will be stepping back from further post-launch updates for the game. In the years since its release, Dead Cells received multiple updates and add-ons, keeping the game in players' minds on their playlists long after they had exhausted the original game's content.
Seven years after its early access release and five years after Evil Empire took the reins from the original devs at Motion Twin, Dead Cells is hanging up its spurs. In a statement earlier today, Evil Empire announced it «will no longer be working on Dead Cells» following a half-decade of work on the game. A corollary statement from Motion Twin declares Dead Cells' upcoming update 35 «the end of our creative journey on the game».
After five years of extensive post-launch support following a stay in early access that began in 2017, Dead Cells developers Motion Twin and Evil Empire are finally moving on from the game.
The Last of Us 2 Remastered's new roguelike mode, titled No Return, was directly inspired by genre greats like Dead Cells, Hades, and Vampire Survivors, according to game director Matthew Gallant.
