The tactical FPS genre is a tough one to break into. Some of the best PC games of all time fall into this genre, such as Counter-Strike 2 and Valorant. A new game is looking to carve out a spot for itself thanks to a unique art style and even more novel gameplay gimmick. Spectre Divide is a joint project between Mountaintop Studios and popular streamer Shroud, who was a long-time professional gamer in this space. Of course, being good at playing games doesn’t mean he is good at designing them, but what we’ve seen so far of Spectre Divide does look like it has the level of quality to compete with the big shooters on the market if its big twist can pay off. Let’s look into that, and everything else we know so far, about Spectre Divide.
A project related to the Half-Life series known as White Sands is currently in the works, according to rumors circulating online.
Stop us if you've heard this one before, but a new Half-Life game is rumored to be in development.
It's that time again. A leak, this time via the résumé of a videogame voice actor, has led to another rumor that Valve is working on a new Half-Life game.
There are many ways to FPS: the tried-and-true squad battles of Counter-Strike 2, the endless quests for chicken dinners in Fortnite, the old-school deathmatches in Quake. This is a new one to me: the developers of ASCENDANT.COM (yeah, that's what they're calling it) are claiming that it's the world's first «adaption shooter.»
Do you ever wonder why there aren't many tactical shooters like Counter-Strike? Valve's round-based, economy-driven competitive FPS stood largely unchallenged in a subgenre it created for 20 years before Valorant arrived on the scene, painting over CS:GO's grounded arsenal with a roster of Riot-style heroes and playmaking ultimate moves. Valorant was exciting proof that there's more to be done with the CS formula, and more than enough player interest to support two tac shooter giants.
Standing among the pinnacle of tactical team shooters is Spectre Divide, an upcoming team-based competitive 3v3 tactical shooter that brings some unique twists to the genre. As the inaugural title from Mountaintop Studios, the team has a lot to prove if they want to be recognized alongside Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, and the granddaddy of them all, Counter-Strike. In an exclusive three-hour presentation, we got hands-on with Spectre Divide ahead of its initial reveal.
