The Spring 2024 anime season is finally here, and while there's a lot to be hyped about, two of the heaviest hitters in shōnen anime, My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer, aren't starting until May. Now, Demon Slayer is another story, but Crunchyroll intends to keep MHA fans occupied every week until the new season starts, with a new four-part special, My Hero Academia: Memories.
Crunchyroll and the official Solo Leveling Instagram account announced that the anime will be getting a second season, after the final episode aired on Saturday. The second season, titled, Solo Leveling – Arise From the Shadow –, is confirmed to stream on Crunchyroll when it airs.
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is the most widely accepted authority on the English language, and is updated quarterly with revised meanings and new words as our language continues to evolve. Sometimes these words are entirely new creations, and sometimes they are words from other languages that have been adopted for common use in English. This past quarter, 23 new Japanese words were officially added to the OED, showing how much of an impact Japanese culture has even outside of Japan.
Gone are the days of trying to find anime to stream online, legally or not so much, if you did not want to wait for the DVD release to maybe come out in your country. These days, streaming sites like Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Disney+ are regularly delivering anime the same day that it is released in Japan, legally and complete with subtitles. This has made being an international anime fan so much easier, and lets otaku around the world stay up to date with the latest anime.
The past five years have been great for anime and gaming fans when it comes to theme parks. First, in March 2021, the Nintendo World part of Universal Studios Japan opened, welcoming fans of Mario and more into a fun playground. Then, in November 2022, the Studio Ghibli theme park opened, letting fans of the beautiful movies step inside of them and experience them firsthand. Nintendo World is in Osaka, Japan, while the Studio Ghibli park in Aichi, Japan.
How much does someone who built the foundations of Pokémon Go still play the game, eight years on? It's the first question I ask Ed Wu, senior vice president of Pokémon Go, as we set off on a walk together around a leafy London park — our phones in hand, Pokémon Go open. «I spend as much of my time beating up the game as possible,» he laughs. This is often using work-in-progress beta builds, he admits, to ensure upcoming features are bug-tested. But he still plays his «official» main account when he can — and it's clearly a source of pride that his was the first ever user account — or one of the first, he can't quite recall — registered on Pokémon Go's live server back at launch in the summer of 2016.
A brand-new trailer and key visual were released on Friday to announce the upcoming continuation of the Overlord anime project, which aired its fourth and most recent season back in Summer 2022. The anime continues with Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom, an anime movie set to debut this Fall, and in addition to new cast members, the main staff working on the film's production were also announced in the trailer, which can be seen below.
Dragon Ball Sparkling! Zero has secured an ESRB rating, leading to hopes the game is content-complete and we'll get a formal release date soon.
