The Lego NES, Atari 2600 and Sonic Green Hill Zone are retiring soon

A number of premium video game themed Lego sets are due to retire soon.

According to Lego’s online store, the Lego Nintendo Entertainment System, Lego Atari 2600 and Lego Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone are all now marked as “retiring soon”.

This usually means that while Lego hasn’t set a specific date for their removal, once stock is gone Lego will no longer make any more of that particular set.

As such, once Lego runs out of stock on the above three sets, and once other retailers also run out of their stock, the only way to get them in the future will be through the resale market (eBay etc), where prices for retired sets are usually much higher.

The Lego NES was released in August 2020 and costs $229.99 / £209.99. The set includes a brick-built NES model and accompanying 1980’s style television set, complete with scrolling Super Mario Bros scene.

The Lego Atari 2600 was released in August 2022 and also costs $229.99 / £209.99. The set includes the classic console, a small vignette of a player’s room in the ’80s and several small builds depicting Asteroids, Centipede and Adventure.

The Lego Sonic Green Hill Zone was released in January 2022 and costs $79.99 /  £69.99. The set was created as part of Lego Ideas, which means a fan created it first, then Lego decided to get the Sonic licence and release it as an official product.

Numerous Lego Sonic sets have been released since then, but until recently the Green Hill Zone set remained the only one aimed at adult builders (until the Lego Shadow the Hedgehog bust was recently released).
