I'm now hooked on Starfield, and it's all thanks to its recent game-changing upgrade

I tried to like Starfield when it first launched, I really did. I'd enjoyed all of Bethesda's past RPGs in some form or other but, as PC Gamer's Starfield review indicated could happen, I found myself oddly cold, held at arm's length from the developer's biggest-ever virtual creation.

PC Gamer magazine's new issue, featuring a special collectible lenticular cover, is on sale now: Planet Coaster 2

This month PC Gamer delivers world-exclusive access to Planet Coaster 2, the incredible new theme and water park simulator from Frontier Developments. PC gaming and theme park sims have gone hand-in-hand since Peter Molyneux and Bullfrog Productions made the legendary Theme Park back in 1994, and now 30 years later Frontier Developments is taking the genre to a wondrous new level of creativity and realism, allowing gamers to not only create and manage their own theme parks, but now their own water parks, too.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, as this video shows, feels like a trial run for its inclusion in Hogwarts Legacy 2

After playing some of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, my immediate reaction is that this feels like a trial run for the magical game's inclusion in the likely-upcoming sequel to Hogwarts Legacy. Sure, it probably didn't start out that way, with my money being on Warner Bros. Games separating out the experiences so they could sell two games to Harry Potter fans instead of just one. Because, you know, money. But following Hogwarts Legacy becoming the best selling game of 2023, I'm not sure a sequel can exist without the inclusion of Quidditch. Their union feels inevitable, as Quidditch would be such an obvious upsell for gamers.

Pinch me! I'm now prepping for my dream PC port of classic Nintendo 64 platformer Banjo-Kazooie as this fan-made decompilation project hits 100%

If you were to ask me what the best platformer is on Nintendo 64, I'd probably say Banjo-Kazooie. Yes, sure, Super Mario 64 was groundbreaking, and Donkey Kong 64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day had their strengths, but it was this Rare-made treasure of a game that, performance issues aside, took the crown.

As the Borderlands movie crashes and burns as a box office megaflop, The Crow reboot says hold my beer, outflopping it at the box office so hard that it gets branded 'a cynical cash grab' by the original film's director and annihilated by critics

Here at PC Gamer I think it fair to say that we really, really didn't like the Borderlands movie, calling it 'an irredeemable mess' that had us 'longing for 1993's Super Mario Bros' film. Yes, it really is that bad. In fact, the Borderlands movie is so bad that someone has made a 3-minute song just from the bad reviews. Needless to say, the film, which reportedly cost $120 million to make, has been a box office megaflop, recouping so far just $25 million worldwide.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 creative director speaks about the dark fantasy RPG's stunning Unreal Engine 5 graphics: 'It’s a key foundation for the studio to really look for the latest technology'

One of the games I'm most looking forward to right now in 2025 is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a unique-looking new dark fantasy RPG being created by Sandfall Interactive. This is not just because it offers a gameplay experience close to that of a classic Final Fantasy or, in combat, a Persona game, of which I am a big fan, nor that the game sports a very distinctive twisted Belle Époque aesthetic. But also because it’s using Unreal Engine 5, and that means its graphics look fantastic, with notably subtle lighting effects and incredibly detailed textures. Check out the trailer below to get a taste.

'I love stories where you go and venture into the unknown': Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 creative director Guillaume Broche opens up on the RPG's brilliantly bonkers plot

I caught the recent reveal trailer for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and proceeded to make finding out exactly what's going on in the new RPG's dark fantasy world, which is dripping with the sort of 'end of days' vibe commonly found in Final Fantasy and Persona games, a top priority as, simply put, it's a bit bonkers. As such, recently being able to sit down with the game's creative director, Guillaume Broche, to see the game in action and ask him about it was a real boon.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 creative director speaks candidly about the new RPG's respect for Final Fantasy and Persona: 'We are definitely not hiding that there are influences'

After watching a recent hands-off demo of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which in my opinion looks like one of the most interesting new RPGs incoming in 2025, I was particularly taken by what I perceived to be the game's indebtedness to the great turn-based RPG series, Persona, and specifically its latest and greatest release, Persona 5 Royal.
