OpenAI fires back at Musk lawsuit with 'facts' showing he 'told us we would fail, started a competitor, and then sued us when we started making meaningful progress'

This week saw the news that Elon Musk, everyone's favourite tech billionaire, was suing OpenAI and two of his fellow co-founders for departing from the company's original non-profit mission to benefit humanity. The suit unsurprisingly casts Musk as the last action hero, the man who sees the dangers of artificial general intelligence (AGI), out to stop those cash-crazed boffins from creating Skynet in an effort to please its biggest investor Microsoft. OpenAI's co-founders have now responded and, equally unsurprisingly, have tried to poke some massive holes in Musk's version of events.

Elden Ring players may well have found Miyazaki's secret 'small element' and turns out it's had a clue to the DLC since launch

Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is due for release in June and, alongside the recent trailer for what the developer says will be its biggest expansion yet, FromSoftware CEO and creative director Hidetaka Miyazaki went on the interview circuit. By far the most intriguing thing he said (well to me at least) was that, despite players poring over every inch of the Lands Between since launch, there remained «a small element that I feel has not yet been discovered.»

Helldivers 2 uses its game master to stop the live service side from being 'just a calendar with automated events tied to major holidays'

Helldivers 2 has landed in a big way and it just keeps getting bigger, to the extent that bewildered analysts are muttering about an «inverse decay curve» (meaning its sales are increasing over time). Partially because the game is just a total blast, but what's kept many of us coming back is the overarching structure of the galactic war. Every mission counts in the quest for liberty.

Tribes 3: Rivals hits early access next week promising 'rebirth' for the exquisite fusion of skiing fast with a flag and explosive frisbees

If you want to know what I think of Tribes, I reviewed the last entry in the series (2012's free-to-play Tribes: Ascend) for Eurogamer and it's one of the few games I've ever given a 10. God that game was good, though, sadly, it didn't quite stick the landing with enough players to survive: Ascend went into that good night in 2016, since when there's been a large Tribes-shaped gap in my collection.

Ex-Bungie composer Marty O'Donnell is running for Congress with "Marty's army" and says he's voting Trump

Marty O'Donnell has had a long and successful career as a composer, but remains best-known for his near two-decade association with developer Bungie. O'Donnell was audio director and composed the music for all of Bungie's Halo games, with his final project being Destiny before things went badly south between the musician and the studio. Since his firing in 2014 O'Donnell has been involved in various legal actions against his former employer and Microsoft, some of which have gone his way and some… not so much.

Elon Musk sues OpenAI for abandoning its principles and says taking Microsoft's billions has 'set the founding agreement aflame'

Elon Musk has launched a lawsuit against OpenAI and some of his fellow co-founders of the company, claiming that the firm has departed from its original principles in favour of «maximising profits» for Microsoft (first reported by the BBC). Open AI is best-known for ChatGPT and its biggest investor by far is Microsoft, which since 2019 has invested billions of dollars in a long-term partnership with the company, and last year showed its level of control by playing a leading role in Altman's firing then re-hiring by the OpenAI board.

Helldivers 2's guns have 46 secret stats so just 'use the one you like the most'

Helldivers 2 definitely involves strategy, but the way I play it would not be described as strategic. My first few hours in Arrowhead's hit shooter were chaos, not helped by the fact that I dived straight into Automaton turf and started blasting away at thick-armored robots with a pea-shooter. I got filleted by melee bots, ran into my fellow patriots' air-strikes, thrown through the air at a rate of knots, respawned more times than I could count, and probably set back the cause of liberty by several weeks. But hey: it was a good time.
