Amazon Prime's original Fallout show is «almost like Fallout 5».
Fallout has been around since 1997, meaning Prime TV's Fallout series had more than 25 years worth of reference material to draw on. According to Emmy-nominated makeup department head Michael Harvey, director Jonathan Nolan wanted the show to feel authentic to the world fans have loved for decades… but he also wanted to avoid exactly copying the source material.
As one of the classic franchises of the RPG genre, has built up an extensive timeline across its many games — one that can be confusing to keep track of with each new addition. Developed first by the now-defunct Black Isle Studios and then by Bethesda (and Obsidian, for ), as a series has gone through a number of distinct changes, with each game putting a post-apocalyptic spin on a new region of the United States.
The Fallout craze continues to pay dividends for Bethesda. Earlier this week, the studio announced that Fallout 76 surpassed one million daily players across all platforms for the first time since its launch in late 2018. The multiplayer game is one of the top sellers on Steam (and elsewhere), largely thanks to various promotions and offers that have, however, since ended. On Valve's PC platform, the game reached 73.3K concurrent players last Sunday.
As expected following the glowing reception, Amazon has renewed the Fallout TV series for a second season.
A couple added features aside, the Fallout show's power armor is remarkably faithful to the suits found in the Fallout games: big, clumsy, ridiculous. They could've wound up looking very different, though, because according to Fallout show production designer Howard Cummings, Bethesda never insisted on adherence to the games.
Warning: Fallout season one spoilers ahead!
Amazon's live adaptation of Fallout was so well-received, the fourth main game in the franchise had a resurgence in sales almost a decade after it was released. If you were ever worried about its fate despite the success it enjoyed, you can rest easy, for now: Amazon has already renewed the show for a second season, mere days after the first one debuted. The Fallout universe is set in a post-apocalyptic world, decades after a nuclear war decimated the planet. Ella Purnell plays Lucy in the series, a vault dweller who was forced to go to the surface to rescue her father.
In a surprise to no one, Amazon's Fallout TV series has been officially renewed for a second season.
