Several Final Fantasy 14 players took to the streets of Ul'dah to pay respects to the late Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, with campfire vigils and outfits based on characters that Toriyama drew over his career. These vigils in Final Fantasy 14 are ongoing at the time of writing and are being held across several data centers, such as Aether and Crystal in North America.

As someone that got into Dragon Quest relatively recently with 2018's Echoes of an Elusive Age, I've long looked for an excuse to play through the game that started it all. Don't get me wrong, I own the game on Switch and have dumped a few hours into it, but it all just feels a little... before my time. It's rudimentary, a little janky, and a tad grindy for my liking, but I absolutely respect it for kickstarting one of my favorite franchises.

Anime fans around the world wasted no time in paying respect to Akira Toriyama, the prolific mangaka of Dragon Ball, who passed away in the past week due to a blood clot in the brain. With modern anime and games so heavily influenced by the prolific series, Final Fantasy 14 fans were no exception.
Following the death of Akira Toriyama, fans are paying their respects to the legendary manga artist with an emotional in-game vigil. Toriyama, who was behind the creation of the franchise, as well as his work in and, for instance, passed away on March 1, at the age of 68. His death was reported a week later, on March 8.
