Professional or tactical fouls are a crucial part of modern-day football, and this year, they have been added to to further increase the realism of the title, even if they can prove frustrating for your opponent. Rather than giving the opposition a chance to have a dangerous attack, players often perform a professional foul to attempt to stop them in their tracks at the expense of a free kick in a non-threatening position rather than conceding a potential goal.

Previously, players have had to resort to using the normal slide tackle move to try and take out the opposition in dangerous circumstances, but this caused several problems. One, it was unreliable and often could miss the opposing player completely, or if you did connect, it would often lead to a straight red card due to the nature of the foul. However, introducing a professional foul input allows you to commit a foul on the opponent with high accuracy and less risk in. This is a great tactic when facing the fastest players in , as they try to sprint clear of you.

If you are running behind an opponent, you can perform the foul by pressing two buttons at the same time, R1 + X on PlayStation or RB and A on Xbox. If you have correctly performed the move, your player will pull back on the opponent by the shirt or foul them to stop them in their tracks.
