Those Resident Evil remakes are great. Really great. But you know what's better? Original Resident Evil. Well, kinda. Look, I'll admit it, basically every RE remake Capcom has put out has been a banger, improving on the games they're based on in all sorts of clever ways, but there's still part of me that yearns for the janky, badly voiced charm of the original PS1 games. Perhaps 'better' is the wrong word, but important? Iconic? Nostalgic? Original RE is all of these things and more.
It's been over 700 days since we've heard anything about Silksong, and no-one's really holding it together. Despite being a hook, line, and sinker-sequel to Hollow Knight, one of the most beloved Metroidvanias of the past decade, its ill-fated follow up has been basically absent since its announcement in 2019—coming up for breath only once in 2022 during an Xbox showcase.
Nothing can keep a good party down, and during the most recent Nintendo Direct the company announced the latest entry in the Mario Party series. Super Mario Party Jamboree boasts plenty of classic same-couch multiplayer madness, with over 110 minigames, some of which you’ll destroy your thumbs with, some of which are motion-controlled. Perhaps the most notable addition is the Koopathlon, which pits up to 20 players online in a mode that looks more than a little inspired by Fall Guys. One of the best platformers on the Switch is still Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, despite it being a pretty straight port of the Wii U game. But what about the original Donkey Kong Country Returns? Some people like that game even better than Tropical Freeze, and it’s currently stranded on the Wii and 3DS. Well, bust open the banana barrels, baby, because the game is coming back!
At the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, has finally re-emerged seven years after its initial announcement. The long-awaited sequel to 2007's has had a notoriously rocky path to release, with development being entirely restarted in 2019 when the project returned to the original series developer, Retro Studios. The wait appears to have been worth it, though, as the trailer is a promising first glimpse of Samus' next mission.
Bethesda CEO Todd Howard recently granted an interview to YouTuber MrMattyPlays, in which among other things he addresses the controversy over Starfield's DLC pricing and some of Bethesda's future projects. But there's also room for some chatter about the past and, with the TV series putting the post-apocalypse back on everyone's minds, the original Fallout games, developed by Black Isle Studios but now owned by Bethesda.
