You ask me, you're not a real series until you have a decent «Wars» game in your arsenal. GTA: Chinatown Wars, Dune: Spice Wars, Star Wars: Empire at… Wars. Who had ever heard of any of those series before they had some wars to their name? No one, I bet.
We were first introduced to the world of Halo with the launch of the Xbox in 2001. That one game became an instant classic and one of the best original Xbox games ever made, allowing Xbox to compete with the likes of PlayStation and Nintendo. Thanks to the massive universe that game set up, plus the ending teasing more to the Master Chief’s story, it was only a matter of time before we got more Halo games. Sony Santa Monica, the studio known mainly for the God of War franchise, might be working on a brand new IP. Fans have been speculating as much for a while, given that Cory Barlog expressed his desire to create a new franchise after he successfully directed the enormously successful God of War reboot. At the time, Barlog stressed he'd need to convince Sony first, but a LinkedIn resume of a Sony Santa Monica Character Supervisor (spotted on the ResetEra board) suggests he succeeded in his endeavor.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree's latest patch seriously shook up the weapon meta and modified some of my favorite toys: Mr. Market is bullish on the Backhand Blades, Rakshasa's Great Katana, and Blind Spot ash of war, but if you're still holding on to your Swift Slash stock, you'll want to sell now. A curious change made it into the patch with no mention in the notes, however: A fine wooden throne was quietly added to Rellana's boss room, the Ensis Moongazing Grounds. What could it mean?
A couple of days ago, The Verge's Tom Warren reported hearing that Avowed would suffer a small delay to give it more breathing room from an otherwise busy Fall game release schedule. A few hours ago, Xbox confirmed the news, revealing that the game is now set to launch on February 18, 2025. New gameplay for Avowed will be shown in a live stream scheduled for August 23.
