Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will be FromSoftware's biggest DLC to date.
Elden Ring has shot back into Steam's best-sellers chart after yesterday's new Shadow of the Erdtree trailer.
After much waiting and hoping, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware promised to finally give us the first trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree today, and boy did they deliver. This first three-minute look at the expansion focuses heavily on new bosses, and they look like a very intimidating lot – a towering flaming effigy, a twisted Chinese dragon type thing, what appears to be a giant stick bug, and more. This is all lorded over by what would seem to be the new big bad of the expansion, Messmer the Impaler (that’s him in the header image).
It may come as a disappointment to Dark Souls fans, but FromSoftware doesn't currently have plans to release more DLC after Shadow of the Erdtree for Elden Ring. Dark Souls 2 and 3 had a trio of DLC releases before FromSoft moved onto other projects, but the developer is leaving the future of Elden Ring open for now.
FromSoftware's leadElden Ringdesigner, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has confirmed that the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will again feature the Souls series' notorious poisoned swamps. The confirmation follows the company's recent announcement regarding Elden Ring's first major expansion.
FromSoftware has commented on George R. R. Martin's involvement in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, confirming that the upcoming DLC will once again feature lore that the famous author has penned for the studio. However, the Japanese developer did not actually bring back George R. R. Martin to specifically work on the upcoming Elden Ring expansion.
Malenia is responsible for claiming countless lives in Elden Ring, largely because of her rapid attacks and regenerating health. She's so difficult that one highly-skilled player rose to hero status by defeating her for others countless times.
