FromSoftware's frequent director Hidetaka Miyazaki has acknowledged his 'making poisonous swamps' addiction, and although the upcoming Elden Ring DLC was a moment of "introspection" for the developer, he's not stopping any time soon.
Some new enemies in ’s DLC have been shown with the reveal of the expansion’s gameplay trailer. The long-awaited DLC for FromSoftware’s award-winning RPG was first announced in February 2023, approximately a year after the base game’s original release. At the time, the content was teased with key art featuring a blond character, believed to be Miquella, mounted on a Spirit Steed with the Erdtree far in the distance. Little to no details were known about the DLC until the DLC gameplay trailer reveal, which showcased a lot of the upcoming content.

The Souls games, or whatever umbrella you want to put all of FromSoftware's action RPGs under, collectively redefined an entire genre and literally defined a new one in the form of Soulslikes. So it is immensely amusing to hear creative director and studio boss Hidetaka Miyazaki describe this success, in an interview with Eurogamer, as: "Players seem to enjoy our games."
Elden Ring's player count on Steam has seen a significant jump since the reveal of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion, ballooning up to nearly double where it was just a week ago. Excitement for the Elden Ring expansion has been building for some time, but it appears the first look at the new content is actually getting fans to jump back in and potentially attracting some new players as well.
Shadow of the Erdtree is dazzlingly, blisteringly real in the wake of yesterday's three-minute reveal trailer, and we now have more info about the expansion to 2022's game of the year than ever before. Its price, for instance. Unlike previous add-ons for FromSoft games, Erdtree is a whopping $40 (£35) over on Steam right now, $20 off the price of Elden Ring itself.
