Indie studio Evil Empire secured a legacy with its first release: the magnificent and best-selling Metroidvania roguelite. Teaming up with Ubisoft for the cumbersomely-titled , the new collaboration is essentially a reskinned and rebranded version of their debut patterned after the long-running adventure franchise. With its animated presentation and greater focus on platforming, remixes predictable roguelite elements – item unlocks, replayable structure, a narrative which develops over subsequent runs – but is notably underweight on content and novelty, even for an Early Access product.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 shows the limits of photorealistic graphics
Out of all the photorealistic visuals in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, there’s one that genuinely left my jaw hanging. It’s a simple shot. Deep in the sequel’s back half, I find myself trotting up a hill toward an enormous tornado. While I’d seen plenty of detailed images throughout my adventure, those few seconds made me feel like I was watching real footage, not an intricate animation. I watched in awe as a fierce storm whirred, debris flying in the distance as Senua’s rough skin was dimly illuminated by the cloudy skies above.

Connections is the latest puzzle game from the New York Times. The game tasks you with categorizing a pool of 16 words into four secret (for now) groups by figuring out how the words relate to each other. The puzzle resets every night at midnight and each new puzzle has a varying degree of difficulty. Just like Wordle, you can keep track of your winning streak and compare your scores with friends.
