This morning, Chinese developer HoYoverse (previously known as miHoYo) announced that its next game, Zenless Zone Zero, will be released on July 4 on all platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS devices.
At long last, it seems like the launch date for the Silent Hill 2 remake could very well be announced in two days. Earlier today, KONAMI confirmed a new Silent Hill transmission will be broadcast on YouTube on May 30 at 4 PM Pacific Time.
Most long-running live service games eventually try to test the waters with a subscription service, even if the game was really set up for that initially. GTA Online did it, Fallout 76 did it, and now, it seems Rainbow Six Siege is doing it. For $10 a month, you can purchase an “R6 Membership,” which will get you access to all premium battle passes with 10 levels unlocked, time-limited legendary items, and more. Rainbow Six Siege has been an ongoing success for Ubisoft for nearly a decade now, and shows no sign of slowing down—it was just in March, in fact, that the game set a new all-time concurrent player record on Steam of more than 201,000. But not everyone is thrilled with the weekend announcement of a new subscription service for Siege called R6 Membership, which promises exclusive content drops, animated skins, and premium battle pass access for $10 per month.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 was arguably the star of the recent Warhammer Skulls 2024 live stream. The long-awaited sequel showed off the multiplayer modes available in the final release: the PvE Operations mode, which runs parallel to the co-op enabled campaign, where you'll play as your own customized Space Marine and work as a team to defeat various Xeno abominations; and the PvP Eternal War mode, where Chaos and Empire will once again clash with chainswords in intense 6v6 multiplayer battles.

Gaming in general and AAA gaming in particular are going through a rough patch. While 2023 was a stellar year when it came to well-received AAA releases, the constant rise of game budgets (with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 rumored to have cost $300 million to make) is literally eating into the margins of publishers and developers alike. In February 2024, Sony Chief Operating Officer (COO) and SIE interim Chairman Hiroki Totoki explicitly said a more aggressive multiplatform release plan on PC would have to be enacted to improve the operating profit.
