FromSoftware has commented on George R. R. Martin's involvement in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, confirming that the upcoming DLC will once again feature lore that the famous author has penned for the studio. However, the Japanese developer did not actually bring back George R. R. Martin to specifically work on the upcoming Elden Ring expansion.

Earlier today, ahead of the release of the big Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree reveal trailer, I told my PC Gamer pals that I really hoped it would be a small expansion because I seriously cannot dedicate another six months of my life to this thing. Alas, it seems that I am getting the opposite of my wish: In an interview with Eurogamer, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki said Shadow of the Erdtree will be FromSoft's biggest expansion ever.
We finally got our first full look at Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the expansion for FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed 2022 open-world game. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too much longer for it, as publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed a June 21 release date.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is available to pre-order now and comes in multiple editions, including a $250 Collector's Edition that comes with an 18-inch tall statue, hardcover artbook, and more. Elden Ring fans can also pre-order the DLC's standard edition for a much more reasonable price, which still comes with its own pre-order bonus.

FromSoftware isn't ready to call the newly revealed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC the end of the Elden Ring saga.
Clarifying a key detail on the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, director Hidetaka Miyazaki has explained that Shadow of the Erdtree takes place on a new map called the Land of Shadow, which is physically distinct from the Lands Between we know and love.
