FromSoftware boss addresses gaming industry layoffs: 'As long as this company's my responsibility, I would not let that happen'

Between Embracer laying off thousands of employees and Microsoft shuttering studios like Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks, the recent wave of high profile multibillion-dollar acquisitions have proven to be terrible for the games industry. It's hard to look at any game studio that's been gobbled up by a new parent company and not be worried that it may soon be gutted just to promise shareholders 11% higher profits for the next fiscal year. This vile trend was on my mind when I visited FromSoftware in May for PC Gamer's cover story on Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree—despite seeming quite independent, the studio does have a parent company, Kadokawa Corporation.

Lords of the Fallen 2, which is technically Lords of the Fallen 3, is due in 2026 and will probably be an Epic exclusive

Hexworks' striking (but rather unfriendly) soulslike Lords of the Fallen is unsurprisingly getting the sequel treatment. The spooky, masochistic ARPG made a pretty big impression, despite the performance issues, while its neat Umbral mechanic—which lets you shift between worlds—helped it avoid being consigned to the middling Dark Souls knock-off pile. Though I still can't get over the fact that it has exactly the same name as its 2014 predecessor, despite not being a remake.

Karlach's infernal engine was a late addition to her character in Baldur's Gate 3: 'One of the last things that fell into place was the heart'

Karlach is one of Baldur's Gate 3's most beloved characters—and for plenty of good reasons. She's big, has potent golden retriever energy, and can probably bench press me—but she's also, like a lot of the game's cast, spectacularly well-written. Her journey of betrayal and punk-rock redemption is compelling and moving, to the point where the lack of a «perfect» ending was a point of controversy.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape review

It's been two weeks since The Final Shape's release, and I'm spoiled for choice. Loading into the new Pale Heart destination, my map is filled with icons all fighting for attention. I could go exploring, hunting down Visions of the Traveler—hidden collectibles that give progress towards the exotic version of the Khvostov auto rifle. I could run a Cyst activity to collect more of the item needed to unlock the last few Fragments of the new Prismatic subclass. Or I could matchmake into Overthrow, the new patrol event. Completing it gives another drop of the exotic sword Ergo Sum, which randomly rolls perks taken from other exotic weapons. I really want a version with Wolfpack Rounds—essentially a Gjallarhorn, but for swords.

Hyte Thicc Q60 AIO cooler review

Take a look at the Hyte Thicc Q60 and you might come to the conclusion that this is an all-in-one liquid cooler that pushes appearance over performance. That's not strictly true, however. Yes, the Q60 is adorned with a 5-inch screen, a litany of RGB LEDs, and some tidy cabling—but there's also a chunky CPU cooler beneath it all.

Final Fantasy 14's healers have had enough and are going on strike, after streamer tears through Dawntrail's first dungeon preview without needing them at all

Final Fantasy 14, as I've previously discussed, is a little too straightforward when it comes to its casual fayre—though that's not to say said content is «bad». Dungeons are often pleasantly cinematic, with interesting mechanics and banger soundtracks. They're just… pretty easy.

Intel found a bug in its high-end CPU microcode is 'potentially contributing to instability' though 'is not the root cause' of those long-reported game crashes

It's been months since the first reports of Intel's Core i9 processors being unstable in Unreal Engine games, but a small step toward a solution has been made, with the discovery in the code that controls how the boost clock is managed. Gamers hoping for a total fix will need to wait, though, as Intel says that the bug isn't the root cause of the CPU instability.
