Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry publisher Ubisoft has unveiled ‘NEO NPCs’ at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Much the same as last year, AI remains the talk of the town at GDC 2024. Roblox Studio has announced a new generative AI-based character creator. Graphics card manufacturer Nvidia unveiled a new AI-powered chip, sending its stock price skyrocketing. And behind closed doors, Ubisoft demonstrated something of its own to a small collection of the press: a partnership with Inworld AI to create a prototype for «Newly Evolving NPCs», or NEO NPCs as Ubisoft calls them.
Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has discussed the company's strategy of experimenting with generative AI, as detailed in today's announcement of NEO NPCs — a new prototype project from Ubisoft designed to let video game characters respond with custom responses to players' speech input.
NVIDIA has been working on adding generative AI to non-playable characters (NPCs) for a while now. The company is hoping a newly-announced partnership with Ubisoft will accelerate development of this technology and, ultimately, bring these AI-driven NPCs to modern games.
Skull and Bones has extended its first season by a week, re-enabled chat, and added opt-in open world PvP, a major community request.
Ubisoft's quietly huge FPS continues to prove it's not going anywhere. Boosted by a week of free access and a frankly ridiculous discount to $4, Rainbow Six Siege surpassed its all-time Steam concurrents record this weekend with a new high of 201,933.
GOG has partnered with Amazon Luna to make its DRM-free titles playable on the cloud gaming service.
We are already two days into a free week for Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft's long-running multiplayer take on its even longer-running tactical shooter series. The free week runs until Thursday, March 21, while you can get the game for keeps for just $4 (85% off) until Wednesday.
