The story of Boggles first came to my attention several weeks ago, after a tweet containing some clips of his material went semi-viral and Twitch slapped the young Australian with a 30-day ban. The videos are fake incidents of him pretending to stick forks in toasters then being electrocuted, the joke being he kept doing it to more and more toasters over time.
Rocksteady's Suicide Squad has finally arrived, and been met with something of a mixed reception. PCG's Morgan Park was pleasantly surprised by the endgame but, getting there's something of a grind and you wonder how many players will even stick around that long. Rocksteady's aim is to keep the game vibrant with regular updates, and the «live service» label hangs on this thing like an albatross, but we'll have to see how that shakes out over 2024.
Football Manager is one of those games that now feels like an institution. I play the newest entry and, even though it's a much-improved and more sophisticated experience, I am still in some sense a teenage boy at a beige PC with my treasured copy of Championship Manager 97/98. I've been playing some version of this game on-and-off for a quarter of a century.
Late last week came the news that, seven years after its early access release, original developers Motion Twin and DLC developers Evil Empire will be ending work on Dead Cells. Evil Empire was set up as a satellite studio to support the game and had been working on it for over five years, creating four DLCs and 18 updates including the recent (and excellent) Castlevania crossover, but now says it's moving on to «secret projects».
Hideo Kojima has relaunched the Hideo Kojima YouTube show 'HideoTube', a Hideo Kojima production starring Hideo Kojima. Okay I'll stop with the obvious jokes, but this is a new episode («The HideoTube 2024 special», no less) in a series that stopped shortly after the creator's acrimonious departure from Konami, and the first new entry in seven years. It's an hourlong and wide-ranging chat between Kojima, host Risa Unai, and various talking heads involved with Kojima Productions' work.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release in 2025, on consoles at least, and even this far out you can easily call it the biggest release of the year if not the decade entirely. Grand Theft Auto now almost stands apart from the industry—the most wildly successful and deeply unusual of big budget titles—with the previous release GTA 5 still going enormously strong 11 years after release, thanks mainly to GTA Online. The anticipation for the sequel seems more white-hot than it's ever been
Oleksandr Zinchenko is a Ukrainian footballer that currently plays for Arsenal in the English Premier League and the Ukrainian national side. The full-back and midfielder is still only 27 years old but has already had a storied career, winning the Premier League four times with previous club Manchester City alongside the FA cup and another four EFL Cups. And as well as being a world-class footballer with the world at his feet, Zinchenko loves a bit of Counter-Strike.
Helldivers 2 launched on Steam today and unfortunately seems to have got off to a bit of a shaky start network-wise: the reviews are currently «mixed,» and the mood music is that people are enjoying the game but deeply frustrated by connection issues. The studio admits it's in «crisis mode» and at the time of writing has just pushed out the first hotfix.
