Gamescom 2024 flew by too quickly, but now that it has ended, the official awards for the titles that made their way onto the stage have been announced and the results are quite interesting.
Wccftech's first Gamescom 2024 appointment was with Yellow Brick Games, a Canadian studio getting ready to release its debut game, the fantasy action/adventure Eternal Strands. The developer was founded in late 2020 by Mike Laidlaw, formerly franchise director for Dragon Age at BioWare. After showing a new trailer at the Xbox Showcase, there's a brand new gameplay video out today.
Today, Atari announced its Fatal Run revival, titled Fatal Run 1989. This game was a huge hit globally when it was first released in 1990, and it was available on the Atari 7800 and Atari 2600. Fatal Run 2089 is set for a 2025 release on Steam, Epic, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
PlayStation users eager to know about the company's plans may not need to wait too much longer to get the inside scoop on what to expect in the coming months. While 2024 has been somewhat of a disastrous year for Microsoft and Xbox, PlayStation hasn't managed to impress its fans either given the sheer lack of exclusive titles it usually champions. After a successful February with, there's been very little first-party movement at PlayStation, leading many to wonder if the publisher is consolidating for a major release push.
Despite the recent delay to February 18, 2025, Obsidian Entertainment continues to show off more of its upcoming game, Avowed. We recently heard that the number of endings is double-digit, and the studio also confirmed the frame rate target of 30 frames per second on Xbox consoles.
Right from its announcement, Sonic x Shadow Generations sounded more than a simple remaster. While the Sonic segment of the adventure would be left virtually untouched, besides some visual improvements, the all-new Shadow segment promised to bring something new to the table, with brand new levels and mechanics unavailable in the original portion of the game. After playing the game during Gamescom 2024, I can say that the game will indeed be more than a simple remaster, feeling closer to an actual direct sequel to the original.
