Creature collecting and survival crafting game Palworld took the internet, and my own nightly gaming time, totally hostage at the beginning of this year. People like the Pals, and not least because it was a Pokémon-inspired open world game. Now officially on the list of other Pokémon-derived features is a Pal Arena that Pocketpair revealed exactly 10 seconds of footage for during today's Triple I Initiative showcase.
Prince of Persia fans are really feasting this year. We've already seen the release of the well-received Metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but Ubisoft just announced another game in the franchise. The Rogue Prince of Persia is a team-up with Evil Empire, the developers behind the iconic roguelite Dead Cells. It comes to Steam early access on May 14.
There are a lot of indie roguelikes and deckbuilders out there now, but few have the pure addictive appeal or cult following as Slay the Spire. Well, surprise, during the Triple-I Initiative showcase, Slay the Spire 2 was announced! The game doesn’t look to be a radical departure from the first game, but it appears to upgrade the experience in most ways, with updated visuals, new cards, enemies, and still-mysterious “new ways to play.” You can check out a cinematic teaser trailer for Slay the Spire 2, below.
2024 is becoming more and more a year to remember for fans of the Prince of Persia series. After a long hiatus, the series made its comeback with The Lost Crown, a very good Metroidvania that brought the franchise back to its roots. The game developed by the Rayman team, however, won't be the only new entry in the series to see the light this year, as a roguelite take on the series' classic formula called The Rogue Prince of Persia will make its Early Access debut next month.

Wizard of Legend 2, a follow-up to one of my favorite roguelikes of 2018 which is in the works at a new dev collaborating with the original creators, was one of the high points of today's Triple-I indie showcase. We got a fresh look at the sequel's updated 3D art style and co-op, and so far it looks like a solid homage to what made the first game great.

Electronic Arts just raised the price of its EA Play subscription service. The standard EA Play tier increased from $5 per month to $6 per month, while the annual fee rose to $40 from $30. These updated prices also impact premium EA Play Pro subscriptions, which allows access to the publisher’s games as soon as they launch. This tier now costs $17 per month, an increase from $15, and $120 each year, an increase from $100.
