Soulsborne games are almost as famous for their tragic stories as their difficulty, and is no exception. The Tarnished are probably used to watching their favorite NPCs meet an untimely end after completing their quests and there isn't a lot of hope as far as many characters are concerned. Not only does this apply to friendly NPCs, it also applies to the many bosses that are put in the Tarnished's way. The Dead Bride in is the fourth Level 44 Void Intercept Battle faced by players in the game's normal mode. With a roster of strong defensive and devastating offensive capabilities, unprepared players will have an incredibly difficult time, and will likely be overwhelmed by her large AOE attacks and swarm of minions.
Although Messmer is the mascot for the expansion, is Miquella's story, and said story has many parallels with the tale of his mother, Marika. The Empyrean has many grand ideas for the world, hoping to make it a gentler place through rather ungentle means. He isn't exactly the benevolent being that many in the base game had claimed, but neither was his mother, and this perhaps demonstrates the crux of his failures, since he was only ever going to reinvent the wheel.
