When I first heard that Blumhouse was going to start publishing video games, I had some very specific expectations in mind. The movie studio is behind some of this generation’s most beloved horror films, so I expected it to go a cinematic route for its games. Perhaps we’d see an approach similar to Until Dawn, giving players an interactive slasher movie loaded with A-list actors. That’s not the case.
This year, the span of Summer Game Fest goes much further than the main livestream event, with a host of other showcases and reveals planned for the weekend. One of those is the 2024 Wholesome Direct, which premiered today featuring over 70 different titles. The show is put on by Wholesome Games, which was founded as a community platform for fans of cozier gameplay — a definition which has widely expanded over the years to encompass a myriad of different types of titles.
Sony revealed the first trailer for at Summer Game Fest 2024. The title is an adaptation of Guerrilla Games' acclaimed open-world series in the colorful LEGO aesthetic, following the release of LEGO's -themed building sets. Unlike the series, which launched as PlayStation exclusives before moving to PC, will be a multiplatform release at launch, coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, along with Nintendo Switch, bringing the series to Nintendo's console for the first time.
Here's a lovely little surprise in the midst of Summer Game Fest: the makers of the excellent building and management sim Parkitect have been cooking up a little something in secret. Today at the Glitch Future of Play showcase, developer Texel Raptor revealed a new game, and it looks fantastic.
has set a high bar for to live up to, but it also leaves some room for improvement. There's a lot at play in, from complex story machinations to a wide array of combat systems, and it's no surprise that not everything is balanced or honed as well as it could be. While will have unique challenges of its own, improving on returning elements that need the work will also be critical to making it a perfect send-off.
