Going into today's livestream showcase of new gameplay from The Final Shape, most players were expecting a retread of the new Light subclass powers revealed last year, and maybe a walkthrough of a campaign mission.

Destiny 2 is bringing back some of the most broken guns in the MMO's history, but Bungie says they're less broken now

Few weapons strike fear into the hearts of Destiny 2 players like the all-timer ensemble of Recluse, The Mountaintop, and Luna's Howl, which defined an entire (miserable) era of the game's history. So the news that these three guns, alongside several other nostalgic favorites, are returning as part of the upcoming Into the Light update was met with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Are we going back to those dark days? No, hopefully. Bungie says these weapons are indeed returning, but not completely game-breaking anymore.

Just weeks from Destiny 2's next big update, the community is up in arms about how its weapons are being released: 'It shows they've learned absolutely nothing'

We're less than two weeks away from Destiny 2's Into the Light update, and, for the most part, it looks like an enjoyable diversion—a fine way to keep Guardians busy as they wait for The Final Shape to release on June 4. The new, much requested horde mode should promote some build-crafting in the final months of this extended season. And the returning 'Brave' weapons are, on the whole, looking good—a selection of returning favourites, with refreshed perk pools set to create some meta-defining combinations.

Destiny 2 is bringing back 12 fan favorite guns, including monsters like The Recluse and Luna's Howl, and a meme that could now be OP

One of the defining attributes of a Destiny 2 lifer is the ability to get excited about shooting old guns with new perks. Last week, we found out that the free Into The Light update, aimed at keeping players occupied until the June 4 release of The Final Shape expansion, will include a new horde mode called Onslaught. Today, as part of another livestream, Bungie revealed the loot on offer, which comprises a dozen fan favourite weapons reprised with a sexy new paint job and perk combos. And although I've shot quite literally hundreds of thousands of aliens with these guns, you'd better believe I am ready to shoot some more.

Marathon reboot gets a surprise game director replacement as Bungie is once more denied a moment's peace

A new game director has been appointed on Marathon, the upcoming reboot of Bungie's classic Macintosh shooter series. As reported by IGN, Joe Ziegler, hired by Bungie in 2022 after departing his role at Riot as Valorant game director, has replaced previous Marathon game director Chris Barrett, best known for his work on Destiny 2's critically acclaimed Forsaken expansion. Barrett's updated bio on X now reads: «Executive Creative Director @Bungie.» Ziegler also confirmed his new role as Marathon game director on X, where he said that he's been working on the game for the last nine months. «We’re still baking, but I’m excited to share with you more info on the game as we get closer and closer to bringing it to all of you,» Ziegler wrote. In an email sent to PC Gamer, a Bungie rep confirmed separately that work on Marathon is continuing.
