CD Projekt Red is continuing to bring patches for Cyberpunk 2077 with some regularity, but with the focus moving to other projects, the team supporting the sci-fi RPG is down to a skeleton crew. The studio says this is plenty to handle the game's current needs.
Following CD Projekt RED's recent quarterly report, where we learned that The Witcher 4 (Polaris) is still in pre-production, a couple of executives were invited by the Polish financial site StockWatch to answer a few questions.
The Witcher 4, the best working name we have for the currently untitled project Polaris, will introduce "gameplay elements and new mechanics" not seen in the previous games.
CD Projekt Red won't be putting microtransactions in single player games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 any time soon, according to comments recently made by the company's Chief Financial Officer.
A senior CD Projekt Red official has gone on record to state that the studio doesn't believe microtransactions have a place in single-player games. And while that move effectively reiterated the company's long-standing stance on game monetization, CD Projekt Red isn't entirely ruling out the possibility of implementing microtransactions in the future.
There are currently 627 developers working at CD Projekt Red, and as the studio revealed during its financial year 2023 earnings conference, 403 of them are now dedicated to work on Project Polaris, which is to say, The Witcher 4. Meanwhile, the skeleton crew left to work on Cyberpunk 2077 updates has shrunk to 17, while its sequel, codenamed Project Orion, has a team of 47 and is presumably still in the early stages.
