Arrowhead has teased “exciting” plans for Helldivers 2 after seemingly resolving the game’s server issues.
Helldivers 2 continues to sell well. The game had surpassed one million units sold just four days after its February 8 launch. Arrowhead Creative Director Johan Pilestedt has now confirmed it is around three million units just over two weeks after the release.
The CEO for Arrowhead Games, developer of Helldivers 2, caught some flak for a controversial take on nowhere else than X (formerly Twitter), saying that Nvidia’s DLSS is “cool tech, but not necessary.”
Helldivers 2 is probably been the biggest surprise hit of 2024 so far but not everyone has been happy with it. A response by Arrowhead's CEO Johan Pilestedt, to criticism over the lack of the option to use DLSS/FSR upscaling, was first interpreted as meaning that it wouldn't be implemented at all. Pilesedt quickly shot that notion right down, simply replying that «gameplay > cool tech».
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO, Johan Pilestedt, confirms that the studio is looking into potentially adding a color change customization feature for the various armor sets available in Helldivers 2. It's been a series of high and lows for the development team at Arrowhead Game Studios, as Helldivers 2 became an absolutely massive hit with both critics and fans after the game's launch. However, the rapid growth resulted in major problems including crashes, server instability, and login issues which have plagued the overall experience for many.
With Helldivers 2's severs holding firm, developer Arrowhead Game Studios is ready to return to its "original plan" for the shooter.
As you may have noticed, Helldivers 2 got really popular real fast—and has been suffering under the weight of success for a week and change. Reviews lamenting server problems caused it to dip into 'mixed' territory on Steam, and a harsh 15-minute AFK timer had to be implemented to curb server squatters.
Helldivers 2 continues to do well here in the UK, with boxed sales growing 20 percent in its third week on the market thanks to the game's positive reception.
