The Unlocked and Loaded Update introduces a wealth of new features for the co-op shooter, including the long-awaited overhaul of the game's itemization system, an original mission type designed for more cinematic sessions, and a new social system that should help players who lack a dedicated group. The changes and additions are extensive, particularly in terms of the game's equipment, so interested users are encouraged to browse the patch notes thoroughly.

Per Fat Shark, 's itemization system has been extensively reworked to give players more freedom in what weapons they want to use and improve.

The developer describes the rework as taking the previous system and making it more accessible to users without dropping the strategy and tactics associated with progression in The introduction of Mastery and Power are being used to facilitate this change; Similar to games like, Power will allow players to upgrade and improve their gear by trading in resources at the Shrine of the Omnissiah while Mastery grants experience points by simply using their weapon.

As far as Mastery is concerned, acquired experience also results in three different types of rewards: Blessing Points, Weapon Marks, and Perks. These features will be necessary for players wanting to hold their own in the new mission type as Operations will present squads with shorter, high-octane, cinematic battles. The first of these is Rolling Steel, which challenges players to stop a moving train hijacked by cultists; The Operation is timed so it's best to get to work and improvise rather than waste time strategizing.

The final major improvement included in the Unlocked and Loaded Update is the Party Finder.
